New passenger tunnel for Gorinchem station

Commissioned by ProRail, Ballast Nedam is starting mid-year with the construction of a new passenger tunnel under Gorinchem station. The passenger tunnel is a long-cherished wish of the municipality and the disabled platform.

The passenger tunnel will be ready in over a year. The arrival of the new underpass means that the station will be accessible to everyone. The tunnel will be equipped with a lift and a new side platform will be accessible via a ramp.

Recognizable with a socially safe design

The wishes of local residents, travelers and municipality were taken into account when designing the new tunnel. For example, the new tunnel will have recognizable entrances and will contribute to a pleasant atmosphere. The new underpass will also establish a connection between Haarwijk and the historic city center of Gorinchem.

Dave Noorlander, tender manager Ballast Nedam: "We are very pleased with the awarding of the project. Together with our partners we were able to make the difference through smart phasing and the right design. We are looking forward to get started in Gorinchem."
