Policy and strategy
Ballast Nedam does its best to be a structurally sound, large construction firm, that focuses primarily on the Dutch market. Our core activities are development, construction and infrastructure, supplemented by directly related services and products.
Our objectives:
- To improve our structural profitability and increase shareholder value.
- To build up a strong image for the company, both in the consumer market and in the labour market.
- To possess the disciplines and expertise necessary to be able to offer integral solutions for complex spatial problems.
- To hold our position amongst the top Dutch construction firms – with the corresponding scale.
- To operate in a manner that is socially responsible.
Three strategic key points The objectives of Ballast Nedam lead to the following three strategic key points, i.e. three challenges that are central to our strategy.
- Chain management
We want to strengthen the front and reverse sides of the ‘value chain' (the whole life cycle of buildings and projects): we want not only to be involved at the midpoint of the chain of construction and infrastructure projects, but also more so at the beginning (planning and development) and in the long term (such as maintenance). We would therefore also like to expand our activities in the field of project development, maintenance, facility management and property development, and to take initiatives in public-private partnership constructions.
- Further increase the underlying value of the business
We wish to improve the company's operational performance and - by changing the mix of activities - the structural margin.
- Active portfolio management
We keep a finger on the pulse: which activities fit in with the portfolio and which do not? The criteria for this are: connection with the core business, future return, distinctive profile, need for investment, risk profile and timing.
