Prestigious design calls for our wide-ranging expertise
The site of the old stadium of football club ADO Den Haag is set to become a sporting venue once again – and an impressive one at that. We have been commissioned by the Municipality of The Hague, The Hague University of Applied Sciences and the ROC Mondriaan regional training centre to construct the Zuiderpark Sports Campus here. This will be a completely new complex focusing on sport, fitness and education and will cover an area of 30,000 m2.
The Zuiderpark Sports Campus will be the home base for the physical education teacher training and sports management courses of The Hague University of Applied Sciences, as well as a satellite campus of ROC Mondriaan. It will offer a hall for top-level sport with seats for 3,500 spectators, a beach sports hall, a gymnastics hall, a dance studio, a dojo, two halls for recreational sport, four gyms, lecture rooms and various project and research rooms.
This is a prestigious new development, as the Sports Campus has to be extremely functional, exude professionalism and inspire people to get the best out of themselves. The building will have a curved façade, clad with decorative prefab concrete elements. Above this will be an awning that will fluctuate in height and depth and incorporate stainless-steel shingles – an extremely attractive feature, but a very laborious one to construct. We worked out all the dimensions for this precisely with the manufacturer. So far the construction process is running smoothly and the result is stunning!
The design for the building is very sustainable. Energy is supplied by a heat/cold storage system, while on the roof we are installing 1,000 solar panels and covering the remaining area with sedum. This will improve insulation and reduce the building’s carbon footprint. The requirements in the area of insulation are extremely high. That is not a problem, however, as we are working with the utmost care and carrying out meticulous monitoring to ensure all requirements are met.
