Lingotto and Heddes Bouw & Ontwikkeling signed the construction team agreement for the project West Beat in Amsterdam. Prior to the signing, an extensive selection process was carried out.
“For the last 1.5 years, we have been working hard with the designing team on the design. We are happy with Heddes’ addition to the construction team and we are now moving forward to the actual realisation of West Beat. A mile stone for the project” according to Martijn Bakker, partner at Lingotto. West Beat was developed by Lingotto and designed by Studioninedots, and stems from an awarded tender which was issued by the municipality of Amsterdam in 2016. In the building at the Lelylaan, approximately 150 apartments, work-, culture- and meeting facilities and an underground car park will be realised.
The centre of the design is a ”super area” on the ground floor, reports Studioninedots. This joint space, visible from the street, is 65 x 50 metres big and on average 8.5 metres high. Thanks to an arched construction, spaces of different sizes occur, while the floor will remain free. By doing so, the super area can be used in a flexible manner and cultural activities will be visible from the outside through the arches.
The municipality and the press already spoke about the ‘wow-factor’ of this special project. West Beat, as a ‘jump over the ring’, needs to be the connection between the city centre and the Nieuw-West district. In addition, the building contributes to the transformation of the Lelylaan and it will increase the appeal of the area as a living environment.
“This project is a major asset to our portfolio”, according to Niels Doodeman from Heddes Bouw en Ontwikkeling. “It is an iconic project with numerous constructional challenges. The team from Heddes can’t wait to work together with the design team on the construction team of this great project.”
