Positive BREEAM site audit at Jonas in Amsterdam
Project Jonas is on the right track to achieve BREEAM Outstanding, making it one of the first residential buildings in the Netherlands. This is shown by the outcome of an interim BREEAM audit.
The audit assessed the environmental impact of the construction site, focusing on waste management, environmentally conscious use of materials, reduction of energy consumption and reduction of pollution.
Conscious choices
At the Jonas project, waste is separated into six recyclable streams. With the current separation percentage of 97%, we score well above the minimum 80% required by BREEAM. The monthly monitoring of our consumption (gas, water, diesel and electricity), the trip registration and bi-weekly waste monitoring also contributed positively to this BREEAM audit.
Ballast Nedam is helping to reduce its environmental impact by choosing sustainable materials. For example, all the timber used on the Jonas project is FSC-certified and we purchase the CSC-GOLD-certified concrete mortar locally. The production of the materials used is ISO 14001 certified. This environmental management system is considered the best instrument for ensuring that the production process is sustainable.
Setting the tone
With the Jonas project in IJburg Bay in Amsterdam, Ballast Nedam West, commissioned by Amvest, is realising no fewer than 273 rental and owner-occupied homes including public and shared spaces. The architect is Orange Architects. Jonas will be a consciously sustainable apartment complex with the services of a hotel. Ballast Nedam West is setting the tone for the new way of living - from luxury penthouses to guest rooms for guests outside your own home and a private roof beach for sunbathing.
Jonas is one of the first residential buildings in the Netherlands to be delivered with a BREEAM-Outstanding certificate. A healthy living environment, sustainable use of materials and energy-efficient installation design make Jonas a sustainability icon for IJburg.
