The creators
Road Specialties is working on some great projects, including The Green Avenue (De Groene Loper) in Maastricht and the A24 Blankenburgverbinding in Rotterdam.
The character of Ballast Nedam Road Specialties
"Our employees are the most important capital in our organisation. They are experienced, skilled and adequate,” says Director Joep Hartjes when asked about 'his' Road Specialties. “We connect and enthral them by being an inspiring and dynamic employer with challenging projects."
The conviction lies in reliability, ownership and result-oriented cooperation. These are the building blocks we use to realise the client's wishes. In addition, solutions are characterised by a smart approach to safety, cost-efficiency and a technical focus on operational excellence, as is the case throughout Ballast Nedam.

Progessive in five areas
Safety is a top priority at Road Specialties
They aim to be high on the safety ladder. By deploying an external safety coach and training employees in behavioural change, they get closer to that goal. The intrinsic motivation is in the people themselves. A coach provides critical guidance and support to achieve the goal.
Focused on the world around us
At Road Specialties, 'Social Return on Investment' is given substance by offering people a place on the labour market. This happens on projects and internal departments within the company, such as purchasing or the business office.
The well-being of the surrounding area
By comparing all projects with the 'BLCV' criteria, they contribute to the environment's well-being. They keep an eye on four important aspects within the construction project: Safety, Accessibility, Quality of Life and Communication. Through these pillars, Road Specialties creates an accessible and safe working environment. This ensures the safety of our people, but also that of road users.
Digitisation efforts
In the field of digitalisation, Road Specialties is collaborating on the development and implementation of PIM, a quality system that collects all the data relating to the production and processing of asphalt. The aim is to be able to work more efficiently, circularly and sustainably.
Sustainability
Road Specialties takes steps in the field of sustainability. They have young machinery and are actively looking for innovations to make their operations more sustainable. The asphalt plants in which Ballast Nedam participates also invest continuously in sustainability and CO2 reduction. They strive to make the equipment fleet sustainable and the construction site energy-neutral before 2030.
