Underground bicycle storage Kleine-Gartmanplantsoen at Leidseplein Amsterdam has officially opened

Alderman Egbert de Vries has officially opened the bicycle storage under the Kleine-Gartmanplantsoen, realised by Ballast Nedam Park & Connect! From now on it is possible to store around 2,000 bicycles underground in the Leidsebuurt in Amsterdam.

"Building in such a small space in the heart of Amsterdam. That is not for everyone," says Thom Hienekamp, Managing Director of Ballast Nedam Park & Connect. "We are therefore extremely proud of our employees who have managed to realise this complex project in a safe way."

A smart solution for bicycle parking

With the arrival of the brand new bicycle storage, thousands of bicycles have disappeared from Leidseplein and Kleine-Gartmanplantsoen. The space that has been created underground for bicycles is also a very efficiently designed place. The bicycle racks consist of two layers, the management area is cleverly positioned and there is more than enough space for bicycles of a different size.

Lizards lead the way

For a pleasant and safe atmosphere, architect ZJA has ensured that as much daylight as possible enters underground. You will also find many historical elements, such as the brickwork in the characteristic Amsterdam School and the lizards of Blauw Jan. When you have parked your bicycle, these lizards will even lead you visually to the exit of the bicycle storage. For example, we have realised a safe bicycle storage that fully matches the art and allure of the iconic environment.
