Project A27 Everdingen-Hooipolder provisionally awarded to Ballast Nedam and Fluor

With the widening of 40 km of highway on one of the most important routes between central and southern Netherlands, Rijkswaterstaat tackles this traffic jam problem.

Better traffic flow

Director-General of Rijkswaterstaat Michèle Blom: "This award marks an important step. Together with ALSÉÉN, we are committed to getting the A27 highway out of the traffic jam top-10. With the project, we are renewing the infrastructure and improving traffic flow, safety and liveability for decades to come. Road users are definitely going to reap the benefits of this."

Over the years, the trajectory has been heavily loaded by more and more and heavier traffic. More than 100,000 vehicles a day regularly cross this congested route from the congestion top-10.

Besides the widening of 40 km of motorway, junction Hooipolder will be tackled, the Merwede bridge and Keizersveer bridges will be replaced and a connection will be made for the future Groote Haar business park in Gorinchem.

2-phase approach

This contract was designed using the 2-phase approach. The 2-phase approach was developed within the cooperation programme in which the national government and the market work together to create a more vital infrastructure sector.

In the 2-phase approach, the risks and uncertainties in these types of complex projects are addressed more jointly between Rijkswaterstaat and the contractor. This leads to better control and a more stable realisation phase.
