Cool, urban and full of character

Energy-neutral living in Delft

PoortMeesters

Cool, urban and sustainable living on the 'banks' of Nieuw Delft. That is what PoortMeesters is all about: an energy-neutral residential building with spacious town houses, luxury apartments and a green communal courtyard garden. Through the Delft Blue gateways, residents can step from an oasis of calm straight into the lively centre of Delft.

  • 114 homes
  • 50,000 liters rainwater storage
  • 4,000 ceramic tiles

Climate-neutral courtyard garden

All town houses and apartments are low-energy and low-maintenance. That means: no connection to the gas network but ‘all-electric’ living. All energy is generated by the system itself, with solar panels on the roof and a heat pump replacing the central heating boiler. Future-proof living, therefore, with low energy bills.

At the centre of the residential plan is the largest climate-neutral courtyard garden in the Netherlands. Built on the roof of the car park, the garden provides both a communal space and private gardens for the town houses. A unique and sustainable water collection system has been installed here: the garden can collect as much as 500,000 litres of rainwater. So there is always enough water storage from which residents can water the greenery in the courtyard garden during dry summers.

Gateway to happiness

Two special gateways give access to PoortMeesters. The metre-high walls are lined with 4,000 ceramic tiles: each one unique and 3D-printed. Together, they form a Delft Blue work of art that has been pieced together like a giant jigsaw puzzle. The gateways are inspired by classic Delft Blue tableware and serve to frame the view of the courtyard garden. A visual statement designed by architectural design firm Studio RAP.

Easily accessible

New Delft is a stone's throw from the historic city centre and Delft railway station. With new canals and a city park, tranquillity is also within reach for residents. In addition, the motorway towards Rotterdam and The Hague is easily accessible.

PoortMeesters was developed by BPD Bouwfonds Gebiedsontwikkeling and Ballast Nedam Development, based on a design by Vera Yanovshtchinsky Architects, and built by Ballast Nedam West.
