Reinforcement of Rijnkade Arnhem officially started

The reinforcement of the Rijnkade in Arnhem is a big job. Ballast Nedam successfully carried out the first works together with consortium partners Van der Ven and Hakkers. In the first weekend, we worked day and night, three days in a row.

Within project Rijnkade Arnhem, we are reinforcing dyke and quay wall on behalf of Waterschap Rijn en IJssel and the municipality of Arnhem, so that the Rijnkade complies with future climate and high-water scenarios. We are doing this with as much electrical construction equipment as possible. This way we are building cleaner and quieter.

57 hours on the clock

We bundled the initial work into two weekends to minimise traffic disruption and look back on a successful first weekend of large-scale work. From Friday 9pm to Monday 6am, we placed the sheet piling and anchoring at Roermond Square, vibrating the sheet piling and drilling the anchors. In the process, we were able to leave the asphalt intact. Thanks to a tight schedule, the road was open to traffic again by 6am.

During the last weekend of October, we will tie off anchors and install the deck gaps and railing. After that, work will continue but large closures are no longer necessary. If everything goes according to plan, the Arnhem Rijnkade will be completely ready for the future in 2025.
