Signing of implementation agreement for A27 Lexmond - Gorinchem
On Tuesday, December 16, a significant milestone was reached in the A27 Houten - Hooipolder project. In Hoogblokland, at the Groote Haar construction site, Rijkswaterstaat and the ALSÉÉN consortium signed the implementation agreement for the A27 Lexmond – Gorinchem section. Martin Wijnen, Director-General of Rijkswaterstaat, Wouter van der Bijl, General Manager Infrastructure, Fluor Corporation, and Sander Lefevre (Member of the Executive Board, Ballast Nedam) signed the agreement, allowing the implementation of the Lexmond-Gorinchem road section to begin.
Work on Lexmond - Gorinchem
The Lexmond - Gorinchem Poor Subgrade Remediation Project is located between the Lexmond junction and the Gorinchem interchange, part of the A27 Houten - Hooipolder program. The contract involves widening approximately 12 km of motorway (2x2 lanes) with a rush-hour lane in each direction. The route is characterized by a low-bearing subsoil, with various underpasses, viaducts, and culverts, and a new junction for the Groote Haar industrial estate to be realized by the municipality of Gorinchem.
Two-phase approach
In the A27 Houten - Hooipolder program, Rijkswaterstaat and ALSÉÉN are working with a two-phase approach. In this approach, the final price for high-risk program components is determined jointly by the contractor and Rijkswaterstaat during a phased design process that leads to a Final Design (phase 1). The design process started in early 2023. Now that the implementation contract has been awarded, the work will start in early 2026 (2nd phase).
The completion of this section of the motorway, including rush-hour lanes, is expected in mid-2029. A maintenance phase has also been contracted for this section until 2041.
Martin Wijnen, Director-General of Rijkswaterstaat:
‘It is an honor and a pleasure to sign this two-phase certificate together with ALSÉÉN today. This marks another major step forward in one of the most complex, impactful, and challenging infrastructure projects in our country. Now let's move on to a successful implementation.’
Sander Lefevre, Member of the Executive Board of Ballast Nedam:
‘At ALSÉÉN, we are delighted that, following an intensive and constructive design and preparation process by the teams at ALSÉÉN and Rijkswaterstaat, the ‘Lexmond – Gorinchem’ Certificate has been signed. This means that the realization of the entire corridor from the Gorinchem junction to the Everdingen junction, as part of the A27 Houten - Hooipolder project, is now in the implementation phase. This is a positive signal to the surrounding area and stakeholders and, above all, a compliment to everyone who has been involved in this project. We wish everyone every success with the implementation."
