Ballast Nedam Asset Management

Ensures that the project keeps running

We are responsible for the full-scale operation of the Justitieel Complex Zaanstad, Detentiecentrum Rotterdam, Kromhout Kazerne, Rijkskantoor de Knoop and all the Ballast Nedam offices in the Netherlands. This involves ensuring the day-to-day functioning of buildings, installations and all operational services so that the organisation can run as efficiently as possible. In doing so, we not only carry out (technical) management and maintenance, but also provide, amongst other things, food and drink (including for prisoners in the prisons), cleaning, waste management, landscaping, the procurement of all supplies and the supply of energy and water.

We take care of everything for the customer and even go a step further than they ask of us: we identify areas for improvement, actively contribute ideas and always seek the best solution. For instance, it is quite complex to carry out management and maintenance whilst remaining virtually invisible to end-users. That is why we get involved in the design right from the initial phase and, for example, advise on the layout of a building, map out the processes and identify risks.
We consistently achieve excellent results in Hospitality Group’s biennial FM Provider Performance Survey. This places us among the top facility service providers in the Netherlands. The clients

Ballast Nedam Asset Management’s external client is the  Rijksvastgoedbedrijf, in conjunction with the end-users, such as the Dienst Justitiële Inrichtingen, Defensie or Belastingdienst. We take care of everything for the client throughout the long-term contract period, which is usually 20 to 25 years: we assist with the procurement of resources and the recruitment of the right partners, whilst ensuring proper management and analysis. We handle everything so that the property can remain in continuous use and the primary process can always continue, maintenance is carried out on time, and users experience it in a positive and safe manner.

Meet Walter van Gurp

Algemeen Directeur Ballast Nedam Asset management

Walter joined Ballast Nedam in 2006 as a Project Director. Since 2017, he has been the Managing Director of Ballast Nedam Asset Management. Jeroen Posthuma, Operations Director, is responsible for the operational management of the business.

Walter leads a team of specialists responsible for the management, maintenance and full operation of integrated projects. Providing clients with a complete, worry-free service is at the heart of everything they do.

His strength lies in bringing together different disciplines and developing sustainable, future-proof solutions.

Before joining Ballast Nedam, Walter worked in the railway sector. He contributed to the development of concepts for both small and large railway stations and was involved in the introduction of the Dutch public transport smart card system (OV-chipkaart).
