Ballast Nedam International Projects has been selected as the general contractor for the St. Maarten Airport Terminal Reconstruction Project. The current terminal building was severely damaged by hurricane Irma in 2017 and is in urgent need of modernisation. The project is therefore an essential renovation development for the island.
As part of the project, the terminal will not only be restored, but also modernized. The terminal will fully meet the modern standards after completion.
We expect the project to take about two years, during which we will also involve the local community in the construction. This local participation will provide the island with additional employment opportunities.
Ballast Nedam has already worked on the airport in 2018-2019, when we installed a new and hurricane-resistant roof. We made sure that the roof can withstand wind speeds of up to 300 km/h. We also carried out international projects in St. Lucia, Aruba and Curaçao.
