Being a construction company, we are aware of the fact that we have an impact on our environment. We have a social responsibility which we do not evade. This responsibility goes beyond our construction site and a more sustainable society. We dare to take a stand, which we show by joining the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations (UN).
Our conduct affects both the present and the future. By joining the Sustainable Development Charter, we take an integral approach on sustainability. In this way, it is not only an ambition, but even more so an operating framework.
Ballast Nedam was the first construction company to join the UN Charter. The seventeen goals are also endorsed by our parent company Renaissance. We are both implementing these goals in the strategy, culture and day-to-day business. We aim for a positive contribution to the charter and inspiring other construction companies to follow us. Together we build a more sustainable world.
The next important question is how we put this into practice. After all, it’s about large issues like climate change and income disparities. These topics seem almost too big to handle. We don’t hold on to the illusion of being able to solve these problems. However, we are willing and motivated to start at matters we can influence ourselves. For example, by certain choices that are made on the construction site or the projects we take on board.
In 2015, 193 UN world leaders developed 17 Sustainable Development Goals which aim to ensure that our world is a safe, fair and healthy place to live by 2030. For everyone. These goals are relevant to everyone and challenge us to take our social responsibility. There are big plans: poverty, inequality, injustice and climate change have to be eradicated by 2030. To achieve this, working together with our clients and partners is necessary.
